ANDY IRONS SWELL
HERE IS A SHOT FROM THE SWELL THAT THEY CALLED THE ANDY IRONS SWELL. I WENT TO KAUAI TO PAY MY RESPECTS TO ONE OF THE BEST SURFERS TO EVER LIVE. THE MEMORIAL FOR ANDY WAS LIKE A DREAM. THE PADDLE OUT WAS CRAZY AND I THINK EVERYONE HAD CHICKEN SKIN. I COULD NOT BELIEVE THAT HE HAD PASSED. THERE WAS THOUSANDS OF FRIENDS AND FAMILY TO HONOR HAWAII’S SON.
THE LAST TIME I SAW ANDY WAS ON A FLIGHT TO AUSTRALIA A FEW MONTHS BEFORE HIS PASSING. I WAS FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO HAVE A SEAT NEXT TO HIM ON THE LONG FLIGHT TO OZ AND HAD A GOOD TALK WITH HIM AND HE HAD ALL THESE SURF MAGS HE WAS SHARING WITH ME. HE LOOKED SO STOKED ON SURFING. HE WAS EXCITED TO SHOW ME HIS SHOT FROM THE EDDIE WHERE HE WAS PULLING IN TO THIS MUTANT LEFT SHORE BREAK. HE WAS LAUGHING ABOUT THE WHOLE THING BUT ANY NORMAL PERSON WOULD BE PEEING IN THEIR PANTS. HE WAS JOKING AROUND WITH SOME OF THE ADS HE HAD IN THOSE MAGS. HE SAID THAT HE WAS GOING TO TRAIN WITH PARKO AND LUKE EGAN TO GET READY TO MAKE HIS COME BACK. I WAS SO STOKED FOR HIM.
DURING HIS MEMORIAL SERVICE THERE WAS A SWELL BREWING AND STARTED TO SHOW OUT AT HANALEI. WE GOT BACK TO OAHU THAT NIGHT AND I KNEW THAT THE SWELL WOULD BE BIG AND GOOD THE NEXT DAY. EARLY NEXT MORNING I HEADED TO THE NORTH SHORE AND SURE ENOUGH IT WAS SOLID 8-12 WITH SECOND REEF WAVES COMING IN. PIPE ONLY HAD A FEW PEOPLE OUT THAT MORINING AND I WAS LUCKY TO GET A FEW NICE WAVES BEFORE ALL THE BOYS CAME OUT. HAD A NICE SURF AND GOT A COUPLE OF FUN WAVES. THIS IN ONE OF THE WAVES THAT I GOT THAT MORNING. I THANK ANDY FOR THAT WAVE! FOR ALL HIS SUPPORT AND FRIENDSHIP. PLEASE KEEP HIM AND HIS FAMILY IN YOUR PRAYERS.
