MANOA DROLETTE

IORANA
THIS IS MANOA DROLETTE GETTING SHACKED AT TEAHUPOO. HE IS ONE OF THE BEST SURFERS TO COME OUT OF TAHITI. HIS BACKHAND TUBE RIDING ABILITIES ARE SECOND TO NONE! HE JUST WON THE TRIALS IN EPIC SURF. THIS IS A 6’8” WE MADE HIM AND HE LOOKS VERY COMFORTABLE IN AN UNCOMFORTABLE SITUATION! THE WAVES HAVE BEEN SMALL FOR THE MAIN EVENT AND WE WISH MANOA ALL THE BEST! MARURU

JAMIE OBRIEN SHAPING

HELLO HERE IS AN ARTICLE I FOUND IN SURFING MAGAZINE. THIS WAS DONE A FEW YEARS AGO WITH JAMIE O BRIEN. SURFING WANTED TO HAVE THE SURFER SHAPE HIS OWN BOARD, WITH SOME GUIDANCE FROM HIS SHAPER. JAMIE CAME OVER TO MY SHAPING ROOM AND I GAVE HIM A QUICK RUN DOWN OF TOOLS, BASIC BOARD DESIGN AND LEFT HIM TO CREATE. I POPPED IN TO CHECK ON HIM PERIODICALLY AND GAVE HIM SOME DIRECTION. HIS APPROACH WAS LIKE HIS SURFING FEARLESS! ANYWAY IF YOU READ THE ARTICLE IT’S PRETTY FUNNY! ALOHA

SAME DAY MALIK’S PASSING

THIS IS A SHOT OF MY LAST WAVE THE SAME DAY THAT MALIK PASSED AWAY. HERE IS A WAVE DAVE WASSEL AND I SHARED. DAVE IS A PRO SURFER AND A CITY AND COUNTY LIFE GUARD ON THE NORTH SHORE. HE HAS HELPED SAVE MANY LIVES. WHAT A ADMIRABLE JOB! DAVE IS A REALLY GREAT GUY AND GREAT SURFER. HE GOT ONE OF THE BIGGEST WAVES THIS WINTER OUT AT LOG CABINS. IT WAS PROBABLY 35 FEET!

THIS WAVE WAS ONE OF THE SETS THAT MORNING AND I KNOW THAT DAVE DID NOT SEE ME BECAUSE I SAW HIS HEAD DOWN AND PADDLING HARD FOR THE WAVE. I THOUGHT THAT HE MAY HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO GET ON THE WAVE, THAT’S THE REASON I TOOK OFF. APPARENTLY DAVE GOT THE COVER OF SURFER ON THIS WAVE AND I WAS SO STOKED FOR HIM! I THOUGHT TO MY SELF THAT I’M GLAD HE GOT THE SHOT BECAUSE THAT IS HIS JOB BEING A PRO SURFER. ANYWAY DAVE CALLED ME BEFORE I GOT BACK TO THE OFFICE AND APOLOGIZED ABOUT THE WAVE AND I REALLY APPRECIATE HIS SINCERITY. I’M STOKED TO HAVE FRIENDS LIKE HIM!! ALOHA

P.S. I HOPE HE LETS ME GO ON A GOOD ONE!

MALIK JOYEUX

THIS IS MEMORIAL OF MALIK JOYEUX HE WAS A FAMOUS TAHITIAN SURFER WHO PASSED AWAY AT PIPELINE IN 2005. WE MADE A FEW BOARDS FOR HIM AND I REMEMBER HIM AS A VERY NICE PERSON. HE WAS WELL LIKED BY EVERYONE AND WAS A GREAT SURFER. I STILL REMEMBER THAT DAY. WE WERE ONE OF THE FIRST PEOPLE IN THE WATER THAT MORNING AND THE WAVES WERE PERFECT 6-8 FEET WITH BEAUTIFUL CONDITIONS. WHEN I WAS SURFING THAT MORNING AND I WAS THINKING THAT THIS DAY WAS VERY SIMILAR TO THE DAY THAT MY FRIEND JON MOZO PASSED AWAY. IT WAS THE SAME CONDITIONS, SWELL DIRECTION AND ABOUT THE SIZE. IT WAS UNBELIEVABLE THAT ANOTHER FRIEND HAD PASSED AWAY! THE AMAZING THING IS THAT HE WAS A VERY GOOD BIG WAVE SURFER AND WAS ONE OF THE BEST OUT AT TEAHUPO’O! HE SURFED WAVES THAT WERE A LOT BIGGER AND MORE DANGEROUS!

PEOPLE WILL REMEMBER MALIK AS A GREAT PERSON AND FULL OF ALOHA! WE ALL CAN LEARN FROM HIM! ALOHA

JOACO

TODAY IS MEMORIAL DAY AND I WANTED TO HONOR JOAQUIN VELILLA WHO PASSED AWAY SURFING THIS PAST SEASON ON THE NORTH SHORE. I SAW JOACO AT THE FACTORY RIGHT BEFORE HE WENT TO PIPELINE AND I KNEW IT WAS GOING TO BE BIG. THE NEXT MORNING I WENT TO SURF PIPELINE AND HIS CAR WAS STILL THERE AT EHUKAI PARKING LOT AND THOUGHT IT WAS STRANGE. WE SURFED AND WHEN I GOT IN TO THE OFFICE I HEARD THE NEWS! I WAS SHOCKED THAT HE WAS MISSING. THEY COULD NOT FIND HIM AND ASSUMED THAT HE DROWNED. THEY SEARCHED FOR HIM MANY DAYS AND EVENTUALLY CALLED IT OFF.

JOACO WAS AN EXCELLENT SHAPER AND GREAT PERSON. I REMEMBER TALKING TO HIM RIGHT WHEN CLARK FOAM SHUT IT’S DOORS AND I DID NOT HEAR ONE NEGATIVE WORD THAT HE SPOKE. HE WAS MORE EXCITED TO TALK TO ME ABOUT EPS AND HOW IT WORKED AND SHAPED. HE WAS VERY OPTIMISTIC AND POSITIVE ABOUT THE WHOLE THING. I BELIEVE THAT’S HOW HE LIVED HIS LIFE. I KNOW HE MISSED BY FAMILY AND FRIENDS.

THIS IS ONE OF OUR MODELS SF1 THAT I TESTED THIS MORNING. THE BOARD FELT GREAT AND IT WAS REALLY EASY TO RIDE. THIS IS A GOOD SUMMER TIME WEAPON FOR 1/2 FOOT TO 4 FEET, DEPENDING ON THE SURFER. STAY TUNED FOR MORE NEW DESIGNS. ALOHA
